“Working better together”, the theme for this year’s ‘Bring a kid to work’ day is the embodiment of what each person at DLC does every day across different teams and disciplines.

And when DLC CEO and Founder, Adam Ifshin, greeted the 24 children in attendance in the main board room named for his dad Steve, it was teamwork that he spoke about.

“I’m going to tell you the secret for today,” Ifshin explained. “It’s one word. It’s teamwork. And when mommies and daddies come to work together DLC, nobody works by themselves. They always work with friends and teammates. And that’s what you’re going to do today!”

DLC CEO Adam Ifshin welcomes the children of DLCers with a message about teamwork.

DLC’s new hires for the day ranged in age from 2-12 and worked in groups to build, lease, and sell an open-air shopping center. They worked through each step of the process – determining the right mix of retailers and what types of stores work well together, constructing a store, negotiating the price of a lease and getting investors to help them purchase a center. All with the help of DLC experts – their moms, dads, aunts, and uncles.

Chief Operating Officer, Chris Ressa, who brought his own children to participate in the fun, helped the new DLCers learn what types of stores are in a shopping center and why the mix of retailers is important.

Aaron Wu, DLC’s Vice President of Acquisitions led a lively discussion on what goes into buying a shopping center and the criteria DLC is looking for. His kids August and Ruby were also eager to learn the ins and outs of DLC’s business.

Ifshin, who started DLC with his father in 1991, was very proud to have a fourth generation of his family at DLC – his grandson JJ.

A short hike and of course, ice cream rounded out the day.

The future is bright for DLC Kids, who already know it’s a great place to work!
