Last year, DLC’s Asset Management team and the Construction team volunteered at The McDonald House. This year our Transactions/Capital Markets team thought what a great way to give back and decided to follow in their footsteps.
The Transactions department’s, Anya Ifshin was tasked with finding an organization to work with. They decided that The Westchester Food Bank and Feeding Westchester would be a great fit because it helps out local people in DLC’s backyard of Westchester County.
Feeding Westchester provides more than seven million meals to people who are hungry across the county every year. But that’s not enough. Their data shows that each year, people in Westchester go without another ten million meals. Feeding Westchester is at the heart of a network that expertly sources and distributes food and resources to feed people who are hungry in every town in Westchester, nourishing all who are in need.
Their impact is large. Working with more than 300 local partners, they serve nearly 200,000 people each year. They supply 95 percent of all food distributed annually across the region’s food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, and daycare and residential programs – delivering over 8.4 million pounds of food and 7.5 million meals to people in 2017. Their collaboration with major retailers and corporations, and their expertise in food procurement, storage, and distribution, turns every monetary donation into fresh food for the community.
Their ambitions are large too. They don’t just feed people. They also help people learn to shop, cook and eat healthy on a limited budget, and advocate for the preservation and improvement of the public “safety net” programs that provide life-saving food to struggling families.
Team leader Sally Krauss lead the charge by gathering the team and heading over to The Food Bank on November 8th to help out for most of the morning.
The task at hand was to sort out health and beauty items as well as food items. On this particular day, the theme happened to be “RETAIL RECOVERY”. Everything that had to be sorted was from some of our notable retailers, Target, BJ’s. ShopRite, Stop & Shop, and others.
